Smaller organizations, many minority and BIPOC-led, tend to have lower budgets and in turn receive little to no funding from several sources, including government.

This raises equity questions for some.

“I’m out here doing the work and I can’t get a dime,” said Renee Appling of Just Between Teens. “I have a whole community of kids behind me, so when you don’t want to fund me, you’re not funding them.”
