NCRC’s Housing Counseling Network offers a Homebuyer Education Program. It is now completely online and self-paced to participants interested in purchasing a home and who have been referred to NCRC. There is a fee of $150 for the online education.
If you are just interested in the one-on-one counseling session, there is no fee for that. However, most of the first time homebuyer grant programs require the online education as well.
The online course includes:
• Preparing for Homeownership
• Managing Your Money
• Understanding Credit
• Obtaining a Mortgage Loan
• Shopping for a Home
• Protecting Your Investment
For more information on our Homebuyer Education Program, please visit www.ehomeamerica.org/ncrc.
Upon completion of the course, applicants are required to complete a one-on-one counseling session (in person or over the phone) with an approved HUD counselor at NCRC. The counseling session may last anywhere from 1-2 hours, and is tailored to each applicant. The one-on-one counseling session will discuss your home buying goals, finances, and credit.
Applicants will also receive a certificate of completion. This certificate can be used for down payment assistance, closing cost incentives, and interest rate incentives. The certificate is valid for one year. If the applicant does not purchase within that time frame, a refresher counseling session will be require prior to receiving a new certificate.
