Organizing Intern

ANNOUNCEMENT

The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) has openings for Organizing Interns during the summer of 2014 (June to August) and the fall of 2014 (with an opportunity to do both terms). Openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals committed to economic justice should apply. Internships are unpaid. Please find details below.

OVERVIEW

NCRC is an association of over 600 community organization members dedicated to increasing access to credit and capital for communities of color and low- and moderate-income communities across the country. NCRC seeks to strengthen the nation’s fair lending laws and the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), federal legislation requiring banks to meet the credit needs of low- and moderate-income neighborhoods. NCRC also seeks to create partnerships among neighborhood non-profit organizations and lending institutions that develop affordable loan products for underserved communities. Most recently, NCRC has worked with members at the local level to devise solutions that can be implemented locally in the absence of federal action.

SUMMARY OF THE INTERNSHIP

Join NCRC in its efforts to broaden access to credit and capital and to rebuild and strengthen communities across the country. Organizing interns will work with the Membership & Organizing Department to mobilize our 600 members and to reach out to prospective members. We seek to empower members of the communities we serve, and we need your help to ensure our training, services, and campaigns have the greatest reach possible.

The intern should believe in the National Community Reinvestment Coalition’s (NCRC) mission, be a high-energy and creative team player, and have superb relationship building and stewardship talents. Our interns do substantive work and get exposed to a range of issues, including fair housing and fair lending, grassroots organizing and advocacy, community and economic development, and workforce development.

RANGE OF ASSIGNMENTS (Depending on hours per week available, length of service, and organizational priorities)

  • Conduct outreach to NCRC members. This will involve learning what our members need, educating members about legislative developments and priorities in Washington, and asking members to take action.
  • Support campaigns and organizing efforts by providing research and writing support.
  • Participate in Membership & Organizing team meetings to provide support to implement our strategies.
  • Provide support on a variety of projects, such as new member recruitment, report development or annual conference planning and implementation.
  • Assist with contact information management and data collection for NCRC’s membership records.
  • Assist with other tasks to support the department such as assembling mailings or meeting note taking.

  • Able to build constructive and effective relationships.
  • Strong writing, oral and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with Salesforce (database) and Salsa (email platform) preferred but not required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates who possess a strong background and proven track record in organizing and advocacy, research, and detail-oriented tasks are preferred.
