WASHINGTON, D.C. – Practitioners Leveraging Assets for Community Enhancement (PLACE), a membership organization for housing and community development practitioners, is becoming part of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC). NCRC and PLACE have agreed to integrate PLACE members and continue its activities within NCRC, as an affinity group of NCRC, rather than as a separate organization.
NCRC is a grassroots network of 600 local organizations that champion fairness in banking, housing and business. PLACE, a volunteer-led organization, had 183 nonprofit community practitioners in 46 states working on affordable housing and nonprofit facilities.
“Bringing PLACE into NCRC helps expand our coalition of community development practitioners who are on the front lines of building, preserving and expanding affordable housing and other community assets in underserved neighborhoods all across the country,” said Jesse Van Tol, CEO of NCRC. “This expansion of the NCRC coalition will help us create and advocate for national policies and local programs to increase access to capital and credit in low- and moderate-income communities. It is critical that we continue to expand our coalition to include and reflect the expertise of more community development organizations.”
“Being an affinity group of NCRC will give us an important role with a strong national organization that has an impressive record in Washington and in local communities where its members continue to advocate for a more just economy,” said Oliver Gross, President of New Urban Development of Miami, Fla., and a PLACE board chair. “By combining our interests and establishing new opportunities for developer practitioners, this combination will only help us have a more significant impact in our communities.”
The combining of forces was approved by both organization’s boards at the end of 2018. In addition, PLACE board member Aaron Miripol joined the NCRC board in January.
